This Is What We're Up Against

The next few months are going to be a nightmare, in case you just dropped in from Mars or somewhere. The GOP is pulling out all the stops when it comes to Koch Brothers' money, instilling fear, spewing hatred (for everybody, it seems), ratcheting up war speech and military spending, disenfranchising would-be-voters, and venting their hatred and distrust of women and gays. Blacks and Hispanics: duck and cover.

I've often wondered if this is instilled into their poor RW youth at an early age, even before they can even comprehend their actions. Sorta like this:

And then do they grow up to believe it's OK to act like this:

How in the world did some of those people on the Right in positions
of authority whether in politics, education, religion, or business, come to feel that THEIR ideas, THEIR reasoning, THEIR interpretation of the rules, are the bedrock of all that we do in this country and the rest of us be damned. Compromise or seeing another person's point of view (and accepting it as valid) is foreign to them.

Maybe a lot of it is the fact that some people do not actually move around the country much: they are born and raised in a certain area, grow up there, and don't feel the need to venture much further. I'm glad we moved several times as I was growing up, and I got to experience different kinds of people and life styles. So did my kids as they grew up: friends of different races and cultures, gay couples as neighbors, attending different churches or none at all, and of course changing schools.

So, I guess my point is: get out and REALLY see this great land of ours. There shouldn't BE any "enemies". We're all in this together. I firmly believe that people are taught to behave the way they do...and this feeling is reinforced by the "company that you keep." Temper tantrums, name calling, truth twisting, died-in-the-wool hatred of others, and boatloads of money are going to be our downfall....Left or Right.

Just Come Out & Say It GOP: Seniors Are The Problem

Not a day goes by that these ignoramuses on the Right are not belittling, mocking, blaming, accusing or slandering some group or another. They've been after seniors for decades. "Welfare for older people no longer in the work force" somehow galls them no end. Never mind that seniors were TAXED (no questions asked) for years to receive these benefits that assist them in retirement...and these self-same Republican policy makers enjoy THEIR benefits from our tax dollars. Minor detail.....

Do they think seniors just LOVE working thirty-to-forty years to be able to say WOW...now I can live in poverty?
Apparently Alan Simpson thinks so:

Alan Simpson
Former Sen. Alan Simpson is not happy with the California Alliance for Retired Americans.
In an April letter full of bad language, the pugnacious Wyoming Republican criticized the seniors group for a flyer that protested a deficit reduction plan from the task force he co-chaired with Clinton administration honcho Erskine Bowles.
"Your little flyer entitled 'Bowles! Simpson! Stop using the deficit as a phony excuse to gut our Social Security!' is one of the phoniest excuses for a 'flyer' I have ever seen," Simpson wrote on his official Senate stationery.
"What a wretched group of seniors you must be to use the faces of the very young people that we are trying to save, while the 'greedy geezers' like you use them as a tool and a front for your nefarious bunch of crap," Simpson continued. "You must feel some sense of shame for shoveling this bullshit."

And if that's not bad enough, you need to work to supplement this early "retirement"....mostly because your job has been shipped overseas, your boss closed up shop, you've been "downsized" (polite for "you're too old, and we can get someone with less experience for even less pay.") TRY GETTING A JOB OVER 50. PAST 60 YOU MIGHT AS WELL BE INVISIBLE. I personally know people who have been small business owners, college graduates (some with Masters degrees or more) who would LOVE a job at Lowes, Home Depot, or Big Lots....but they're not hired.

Yet, you still have those on the Right pushing this meme:

Baby Boomers Getting All the Jobs?

I don't know about you, but this is REALLY getting on my nerves. Changes need to be made in the "system" granted... but kicking people to the curb, and lying about it is despicable. For some reason these conservative Repubs remind me of the words to an old Bob Dylan song, done by Barry McGuire: "Hate your next-door-neighbor, but don't forget to say grace."

Race, Diversity...... and the RACE

We all heard the news the other day that the birthrate has tipped in favor of non-whites. This, of course has the Right discombobulated. Now I'm SURE they'll be dead set against ALL birth control, reproductive choices and family planning services for those conservative-values voters. Those of OTHER mindsets (or ethnicities)...not so much. This should be interesting if not vitriolic at times.

This is from ABC News yesterday:

The data released this week revealed a tipping point in the country's demographic shift. For the first time in the country's history, more minority children were born than white children, setting the stage for an eventual non-white majority in America's population.

"I think that what we're seeing is that hate groups, particularly white supremacist groups, are talking a lot about the fact that whites will soon be a minority in this country, that their goal at all costs is to preserve the white race in civilization, which spurs them to recruit more, and have more incendiary rhetoric," Mayo said.

The main reason for all of this, of course is: "It is not a good thing. The immigrants do not share American values, so it is a good bet that they will not be voting Republican when they start voting in large numbers."............the Eagle Forum

Now in the South, custom and tradition are something to be revered.....right or wrong. NASCAR is a world unto it's self. (Hey, I've got MY favorite drivers, too.) They've already had conniption fits that they have to race in California and Las Vegas....

So when a young driver of African-American persuasion is making his way up the ranks: "Given Darrell Wallace Jr.'s advanced learning curve in stock car racing, it might seem like his NASCAR national series debut has been a long time coming."

Let the comments begin..........From the Nascar site today:

He has every right to race and nascar has every right to give money to the poor just wish they would stop making the tickets so hi to support him

What is wrong with having something that is not "diverse" ? White people are what made NASCAR big and now Brian France does this. I hear that attendance is down at the races, maybe because Obamas hog came to a race!

Just saw a stat the other day where the growth of minorities have outgrown whites = whites are the minorities so does that mean the poor whites get funding too?  I'm glad he is getting a chance.

You've even got to be the RIGHT color to drive a car, turn left, and go fast these days.
