Bloodbath. Sweep. Wave. Victory. Obama Rejection…..

call it what you will. The Dems…you and me…..were hornswaggled and soundly beaten by the very same people that got us into this mess in the first place.
This speaks very badly for the intelligence and foresight of the American populace in general, or maybe the members of the current Democratic Party are the biggest chickenshits we have ever seen. It's a toss-up either way, in my estimation.

When you have the most narcissistic, ignorant, grifting female in America……hoisted upon us by the GOP, remember……..using President Obama's own words (the ones she herself mocked just a few years ago)……to goad the Repubs into action, you have come full circle in mental gymnastics.

"So, establishment types, remember that you didn’t build this! This majority that swept you into power tonight is thanks to the rank and file commonsense conservative grassroots. That’s who built it. And they expect results. They deserve the best for America."

(We'll leave that commonsense conservative grassroots meme for another time…..)

And then there is this nonsense to go along with it: http://tinyurl.com/kvbbc32

The SCOTUS opened the door and the Big Money came rolling in….being carried in part by the "religious right" whom the conservatives are surreptitiously using with their anti-abortion and contraception issues (see Justice Ginsberg's warning), and supplanted by the Koch Brothers' money-is-no-issue-for-us-to-buy-the kind-of government-we-want. Throw in the "we lose when everybody votes" meme the Repubs have used in secret for decades, but now have brought front and center…and we are going to pay for it.

"McConnell’s next play is perfectly clear. His interest lies in creating two more years of ugliness and gridlock. He does not want spectacular, high-profile failures that command public attention — no shutdowns, no impeachment. Instead, he wants tedious, enervating stalemate. McConnell needs to drain away any possibility of hope and excitement from government, so that the disengaged Democratic voters remain disengaged in 2016.

I am ashamed of the Dems themselves…trying to be Republican lite. Are you ashamed of the accomplishments that this president has battled to achieve?? Did you not get everything you thought you should get when you thought you should get it?? Are you freaking afraid of the NRA?? Have the scientists' dire warnings (and possible solutions) caused you to panic, not wanting to upset McConnell's coal-supporting buddies….maybe letting the future generations deal with it?? Are you actually becoming to believe that it is all those "lazy, mooching  unemployed takers wanting free stuff" that is ruining it for everybody else instead of Walmart and Wall Street?? Are you also secretly afraid that all those brown/black/yellow/purple people are going to take way your "good" life, too??

I am not a great church-goer at this stage of my life, having "been there" all through my youth, but this quote came to mind:

So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I will spit you out of my mouth.   Revelation 3:16

I really feel that since we….Dems….cannot even stand up for what we believe in, cannot back up and cheerlead for the things their President has done for us ( but we can complain, and run from them in order to appear "above it all."), and cannot even attempt to get a word in edgewise about our goals to our corporate media, we got what was coming.

The next two years before the next presidential election will be very telling. If a failing educational system, privatization of all necessary services in the name of "saving money and efficiency", letting "free market" rule your healthcare choices, watching fewer groups of citizens being able to vote, watching a gradual militarization of the police forces that are supposed to be protecting you, seeing more of our state and government lands being exploited for profit by fossil fuel corporations to the detriment of people's health, and state governments decimating women's healthcare services…………..just don't take it out on this President. Blame Big Money, and yourselves.

I Don't Even Know Where To Begin...

"What will religion look like in the year 2060?
Conservative Christians will be treated as second class citizens, much like African Americans were prior to civil rights legislation in the 1960s.
Family as we know it will be drastically changed with the state taking charge of the children beginning at birth.
Marriage will include two, three, four or any number of participants. Marriage will not be important, with individuals moving in and out of a “family” group at will.
Churchbuildings will be little used, with many sold to secular buyers and the money received going to the government.
Churches will not be allowed to discuss any political issues, even if it affects the church directly.
Tax credit given to churches and non-profit organizations will cease.
Christian broadcasting will be declared illegal based on the separation of church and state. The airwaves belong to the government, therefore they cannot be used for any religious purpose.
We will have, or have had, a Muslim president.
Cities with a name from the Bible such as St. Petersburg, Bethlehem, etc. will be forced to change their name due to separation of church and state.
Groups connected to any religious affiliation will be forced out of health care. Health centers get tax money from the state, making it a violation of church and state.
                             Get involved! Sign THE STATEMENT."
                                              Sincerely,
                                       Donald E. Wildmon

This little gem was mailed out recently by the AFA to it's members. Darn...I was SOOOOO looking forward to receiving mine in the mail. I needed more paper to go into the recycling bin.

And they wonder why people are distancing themselves from Conservatism and their brand of Christianity.......

Contradiction in Terms: Hunger Edition

We live on a semi-private driveway, off of and parallel to a busy road. Just six houses: one resident a widow working in the corporate offices of a LARGE big-box chain; another a "both people working" couple; the next gentleman a teacher at University of Tennessee; further up is a retiree from the FBI (what she could tell you about K Street. She's not a Repub.); the next is a single gal who travels a lot for sales in a food service concern (who is definitely Right Wing churcher, but nice.); and then us, retired former small business owners (whose business went bye-bye due to the economy in upstate Ohio) living mostly on Social Security.

Two Saturdays ago the USPS (that horribly mismanaged government supported about-to-be abolished 'cause unions...yada..yada.) had a food drive: put some nonperishable goods in a bag by your mailbox to picked up by the carrier (or in our case...driver. Debbie is a very neat gal. She even put a stamp I'd forgotten on a letter for me. Hey, I paid her back.)

Well, as we drove down the driveway on our way to do some errands, generally do Saturday-type stuff I looked at the mailboxes. Out of all the mailboxes, there were two bags waiting to be carried away. Yep, you guessed it.........on the two retirees: The Dems. The "socialists" even.

What is it about the conservative church-goers who LOVE to preach about the goodness of man, of themselves....but when it comes to actually DOING something for someone else....especially those less fortunate.... they're absent. I guess it only counts in church where Jesus keeps score, apparently.

And then there is the condemnation from the Right Wing talking heads on the subject. Hunger and those who want to combat it are to be ridiculed voraciously.

Yet, the faithful viewers of this garbage are having their opinions shaped, being told what to accept as good and true, going to vote in the next election to "shape policy" for the rest of us.

We've got some work to do, fellow "bleeding heart liberals." If the Right have their way and the less fortunate must rely on "the state, the churches, and the goodness of their neighborhood network just like in the old days", we're in a pile of trouble. Right Wingers read their Bible, but they have NO idea what it means.

It just never ends.....

MS. PALIN and TOUCH DOWN JESUS

No, I'm not being blasphemous, folks. I just wanted to "touch base" as it were, on totally out of line goings-on in this country these days. I'm not saying that the right wingers have a lock on stupid and poor taste, but I've got to wonder about the intelligence level of some of these people.

"For at least the past 10 years, the megachurch evangelical movement has been telling its parishioners that Jesus wants them to get rich. That fit rather nicely with the triumphalism of Bush/Rove & Co. as it built its "permanent majority" with their votes, testifying that it was their all-American duty to trample the environment and the poor, and to kill Afghan and Iraqi Muslims, on the way to God's kingdom. In imitation of the way Bush paid for his wars, many of the devout simply loaded themselves up with debt, buying SUVs and McMansions in spanking new developments.
Since the capitalist collapse, of course, that debt has become toxic. Now, in their dismay and confusion over having supported Bush--one of the first governors, by the way, to declare an annual state "Jesus Day"--evangelicals are left with a terrible anger. And they desperately don't want to turn that anger inward.

And now we have the Great Unraveling. As the waters recede, what's left behind are follies like the "Drowning Jesus" (a/k/a "Touchdown Jesus"), a 62-foot-high sculpture of Christ set chest-deep in a reflecting pool at the Solid Rock Church in Monroe, Ohio, one of the non-coastal states Palin is visiting on her book tour. And who's to blame for that embarrassing excess, constructed in 2004?
I know: ACORN."

I hope you've gone to that link to see what I mean. I live not too far from there. It's mind boggling.
