Something Worth Stealing

This:

What if we treated the "clients" of the NRA like the Right Wing treats folks that use the services of Planned Parenthood??

New Twist: For Your Protection: "Reserve " Cops

Seems like there is an interesting twist to Mr. Reserve Cop:

"Supervisors at the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office were ordered to falsify a reserve deputy’s training records, giving him credit for field training he never took and firearms certifications he should not have received, sources told the Tulsa World."

Sooooo.….did he forget the difference between a taser and a handgun? And why can't other 73 year-olds get (BUY) new jobs in their fields? Just asking…..

This is one truly great article. I am not even going to change a word for a personal blog…just read, and pass it on.

"And that’s why our state legislature wants ordinary citizens out armed and concealed-carrying, in parks and schools and everywhere else. They don’t have to pay for that, do they? These are volunteers “playing cop,” too

“Oh, I shot him. I’m sorry.”

This is how civil society dies. It starts by denigrating all things public — public employees, public schools, public servants of all kinds. Make “public” a bad word, tell everyone you can do a better job yourself (or the private sector can)."

As a liberal gal in the same Red State, I have a constant headache from banging it against the wall….daily.

Oh, and this: http://tinyurl.com/ou3mr6u

Sad Right Wing Parody

There is just no depth too low for these hateful extreme Right Wingers to reach:

“On my way here this morning flying in from St. Louis, I thought of a civil rights leader,” Dana Loesch (RW blogger) said. “He made a very impassioned speech, a historic speech, in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. I too have a dream. I have a dream that one day we as law-abiding, God-fearing, America-loving, Second Amendment-exercising gun owners will be judged on the strength of our character and not the content of our magazines!”

"Loesch was airlifted in to the “Farewell to Arms” rally by weapons-maker Magpul along with 20,000 extended magazines carrying 20-30 bullets each, which the company donated......."

I have no words....

Quit Picking On The NRA...
they'll probably shoot back.

Pity these poor folks: they're just trying to stand up for the hunters, shooters, and gun owners of this great freedom-loving country. You know how they have to go out every morning and shoot some food for the day's meals. And then there are the guns you need to fight for your survival when going to work, driving in the commuter lane or on the subway. One must be prepared at all times to defend his opinion after a few drinks, or maybe put that nagging spouse in his/her place, so a concealed-carry is nice to have.

Of course, when you have a "usurper" with a foreign-sounding name in the White House readying the camps for "patriots", intent on "taking away all our guns and freedoms," you must REALLY be on the ready......

The folks in the NRA are nobody's fools: they have evolved (??) over the years from teaching gun use and safety to small groups to becoming the lobbyists and mouthpieces of the handgun and ammunitions industry. There's big money to be made there, even if their influence is not as great as it's made out to be. And they are VERY vocal...with the ability to stir up trouble.

But they also know how to make the laws work FOR them. Handguns are exempt from the Consumer Product Safety Commission....guess they don't even have to be safe to use. Manufacturers and dealers of guns cannot be sued over defective weapons either, nor can they be sued for crimes involving guns. (They lucked out on THAT one....) Contrary to Right Wing fear mongering, at the moment there is no "gun owners list"  for "the government to come and take away your guns." Your physician cannot even mention, ask, or allude to the question of gun ownership during the course of an exam...but you can probably carry your gun there, though. You can take it everywhere else: church, schools, bars, state parks...even keep it in your car in the parking lot at work.

Guns, of course are not the problem says the NRA. It's people....and television and movies and violent video games. Well, except the one THEY just put out: it's rated for children 4 years old and it "strikes the right balance of gaming and safety education, allowing you to enjoy the most authentic experience possible."
What could possibly go wrong ???

Give Us Lawyers, Guns and Money

NASHVILLE — The National Rifle Association is spending $75,000 to unseat House Republican Caucus Chairwoman Debra Maggart while asking all state legislators whether they will side next year with the organization, even if it means breaking with GOP leadership.

"As a legislator, would you follow the demands of party leadership even if they run contrary to the NRA's legislative agenda?" one survey item asks. ihttp://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/jul/10/nra-spending-75k-to-unseat-house-gop-chair/

I see that Grover Norquist is alive and well as a clone in the NRA. This group is appealing to the basest of Southern instincts: gun control and the right to "pack" at any given time, at given place.

The NRA and the Tennessee Firearms Association have targeted Maggart for defeat because of her role in blocking a vote on a bill that would allow Tennesseans to keep guns in their locked cars in parking lots, even if the lots are owned by a company or government entity that prohibits firearms on its premises.
I don't believe that the colonists were this obsessed with "being armed" at the time the Constitution was being written. Why, if EVERYBODY was allowed to carry some type of gun anywhere, to "protect himself" from criminals, or opposing viewpoints and religions....we would have NO NEED for any type of police force, private or otherwise. Hmmmmm..........Of course, this is PURELY speculation on my part, and a coincidence that certain shadowy elements are involved:
Koch Industries has vigorously defended ALEC, and has assailed reporting that noted that the company, led by billionaire brothers Charles and David, is a long-time funder and leader of ALEC and that ALEC has long advanced the NRA agenda through "model" gun bills, including Florida's controversial SYG law that was ratified by ALEC in 2005.http://articles.cnn.com/2012-04-06/politics/politics_nra-alec_1_nra-officials-alec-gun-rights?_s=PM:POLITICS
Not all of the Koch money is going to large political pushes the country can see (but won't acknowledge)........a good portion is working it's way insidiously into our local legislation and everyday lives.

TENNESSEE HAS A METH PROBLEM

screamed the headline I saw today. Maybe...but I think that is a MINOR problem compared to the idiocy coming from our state legislators these days. We PAY these people with our tax dollars to come up with such doozies as a Proposal to Ban Sharia Law, and our crazy-quilt redistricting plan that has NO rational basis? (Actually, there's no rational basis for the ban, either.)

Of course it makes sense to the NRA for our citizens to be able to now lawfully carry their guns into a bar. (I've never seen that alcohol and guns would be a problem.....) If new legislation goes through, you'll soon be able to lawfully keep your gun in your car in the parking lot where you work. Always handy if you feel like using it during work hours, I guess. You might also be able to to use them on the deer that seem to "ravaging" our area. Or at least that was the why "all the coyotes were delivered  to this area to keep the deer population down" said another of our local politicians

There's also a proposal by one of our illustrious politicians that will prohibit using federal funds for any advertising campaign against any lawfully manufactured and distributed food, such as soda pop, candy, or snack foods. Guess he doesn't think balanced meals for kids is too important these days. And no, this wasn't brought up by the same TN guy who was "caught on fire" on Politifact for saying that "less than 10 percent of those in the House were wealthy."

Of course, we all VERY proud of our "Don't Say Gay" ordinance. And there is our very own Fool On The Hill spouting for all the world to hear that "AIDS/HIV was first spread by a man having sex with monkeys." And this same person cannot understand why he was asked politely to leave a restaurant because of the owner's personal objections to such remarks. But I'm sure he was in a hurry to go to Dayton, TN to view the museum commemorating the Scopes MonkeyTrial....
